You Haven't Been Praying Wrong Because You Lack Faith

September 23, 2026

Prayer meetings are multiplying everywhere — all-night vigils, prayer chains, prayer apps, prayer points by the thousand. And still homes are breaking, finances are failing, and the very things being prayed against keep deepening. Something is wrong here, and it isn't a shortage of prayer.

Read

"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

— James 5:16

The Argument

Stop the Prayers opens with the line that names the real problem directly:

"You have not been praying wrong because you lack faith. You have been praying wrong because you skipped the foundation."

The book draws a distinction most people never stop to make: the prayer of the wicked and the prayer of the righteous are not the same transaction, no matter how similar the words sound coming out of the mouth. James doesn't say the sincere prayer avails much, or the lengthy prayer, or even the theologically careful prayer. He says the prayer of a righteous man does. That word is doing real work in the verse — and it's the word most prayer activity quietly skips past.

Which is why the book makes the claim it does:

Prayer offered from an unrepented heart does not simply fail. It is intercepted.

Not weakened. Not delayed. Intercepted — as though something never actually reached where it was aimed.

Why This Matters to You

This isn't a case for praying harder, longer, or louder. It's a case for praying clean — checking the foundation before adding more weight on top of it. Activity and alignment can look identical from the outside and be two completely different things.

A Question to Sit With

Has your prayer life lately been more about the amount of activity, or about the condition of the foundation it's standing on?

Go Deeper

Stop the Prayers — Repent Series, Book Two — walks through this in full: the difference between the two prayers, the three layers of corruption that quietly disqualify sincere prayer, and the pattern of Jesus's own praying life.
