And yet the Presence that Moses found on the mountain, that Esther found before the king, that Jesus emerged from the wilderness carrying — that Presence has remained just beyond your reach.
The problem is not your discipline. The problem is your destination.
In the ancient Tabernacle of Moses, the Menorah burned perpetually in the Holy Place — seven lamps, pure oil, tamid: always, without stopping. No natural light entered that room. The Menorah was the only illumination. And it is this burning Presence — the Menorah of His Presence — that every genuine fast has always been designed to restore.
The fast is the corridor. The Presence is the room. And too many of us have been living in the corridor.
