Learning to Tell the Difference

September 9, 2026

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1 John 4:1

Scripture never tells you to stop discerning once you leave religion behind — it tells you to discern better. The remnant isn't gullible. It's awake.

Real spiritual authority doesn't need to manufacture your fear to keep your loyalty. It doesn't need secrecy to protect it, or urgency to rush your decisions. The Holy Spirit leads — He doesn't pressure, manipulate, or isolate you from the people who love you. Where you see those things, you're not looking at the Governor. You're looking at a counterfeit wearing His name.

Testing isn't the opposite of faith. It's what faith does when it's grown up. You are allowed to ask questions. You are allowed to wait. You are allowed to walk away from something that claims God's name but doesn't carry His fruit.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a voice you've been following out of fear rather than conviction?

Pray

Holy Spirit, teach me to hear You clearly and to recognize what isn't You. Give me courage to test what I'm told, even when it's uncomfortable. I don't want control disguised as covering, or fear disguised as faith. Lead me Yourself — I'm listening for You.
