The Cost of Leaving the Familiar
September 16, 2026
So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him... Now the Lord had said to Abram: 'Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you.'
Genesis 12:1, 4Abram didn't get a map. He got a voice and a promise, and he left the only life he'd known before he knew where he was going. Every remnant story starts the same way — someone willing to be misunderstood by the familiar for the sake of the real.
Here's what matters: God didn't send Abram out to punish him. He sent him out to bless him — and through him, to bless the whole earth. Separation isn't the goal. It's the doorway. What feels like loss right now is often God clearing space for something you couldn't receive while you were still holding onto the familiar.
You may lose some company on this road. You will not lose God. He goes ahead of the called-out the same way He went ahead of Abram — not to abandon you in the unfamiliar, but to meet you there.
A Question to Sit With
What has this season cost you, and have you let yourself grieve it honestly before God?
Pray
Lord, this road has cost me more than I expected. I miss what was familiar, even the parts that weren't healthy. Meet me here anyway. Remind me that You didn't call me out to leave me alone — You called me out to lead me. I trust You with what I can't see yet.
