The Voice You Were Made to Know

September 23, 2026

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

John 10:27

For years, maybe, someone else did your listening for you. They told you what the Spirit was saying, and you trusted their word more than your own ears. That wasn't always wrong — but it wasn't meant to be permanent. Jesus didn't say "my sheep hear my under-shepherd's voice." He said mine. Personally. Directly. Yours to know.

Learning to hear Him for yourself isn't instant. It's a relationship, and relationships take time to learn each other's voice. Don't panic if it's quiet at first, or if you're not sure what's Him and what's just your own thoughts. Samuel didn't recognize the Voice the first three times either — but he kept showing up, and Eli helped him listen instead of listening for him.

You're not being asked to figure this out alone in the dark. The Holy Spirit — the Governor Himself — isn't hiding from you. He's patient with a sheep learning to tell His voice apart from all the others it's been trained on. Every time you show up quiet and ask, you're building the muscle religion never let you build: the muscle of hearing God yourself.

A Question to Sit With

When was the last time you asked God something directly and waited — really waited — for Him to answer, instead of asking someone else what He'd say?

Pray

Lord, teach me to know Your voice the way a sheep knows its shepherd's. I've relied on other people's ears for too long. I don't want a substitute anymore — I want You. Quiet the noise around me and in me, and meet me here. I'm listening.
